After struggling with Ulcerative Colitis for the past 2 years, I have decided to take the 2014 Season Off. Symptoms usually worsen around Feb - May for me each year but this year, symptoms had begun getting worse in mid-January. Met with my Gastro last week and he says that if I don't let the inflammation in my colon heal, the resulting effects can be permanent and in the end, that is a risk I am no longer willing to take. I avoided recommendations made by my doctors the past 2 seasons because I couldn't imagine not competing in this sport. To me, it was well worth dealing with the symptoms as long as I got to go and compete at Regionals and try and achieve my goals. But now, I can't be selfish about it anymore and it is time to relax and let my body heal up the way it needs to. I don't want to be the dad that shits himself at my daughters events because my colon is all jacked up from the years of abuse I put it through.
I realize it is a young man's sport now and at 33 my window is closing pretty quick. It sucks to not be able to leave on my own terms but this was the easiest tough decision I have had to make...if that makes sense. I literally have no idea what the hell I am going to do for the next 4-6 months, the last 4 years of my life have been spent training for one goal. I feel that I have been as disciplined as anyone in this Sport in regards to my training and lifestyle but my skillset just wasn't what it needed to be when it counted. I have met some really cool people and been able to learn alot about myself throughout this process. For me, it was never about the recognition or the spotlight, that was not the reason I competed. I love the discipline of preparation. I love testing myself day in and day out and see how I respond mentally and physically. I loved showing up to Regionals and having your training show through...you can't hide, if you didn't put in the work, it will show. Anyway, for those that supported me over the past four years on this ride, thanks for everything. Not sure what the future holds but I am sure this won't be the end.

Training (2p)
A. "Squat snatch/clean" play 15-20 min
*Built quickly to 235# with no misses.
+
"Amanda"
*3:53
*PR by a mile. Went U/B on everything and would have been about 6 seconds faster but failed 1st rep in set of 5 Snatches. No missed Mups. This put me in a really bad place and was nowhere near recovered after the 10 minutes.
rest 10 min
"fran"
*3:22
*Was nowhere near ready to do this. Went U/B but had to take a good amount of rest b/w Thrusters and Pullups. Laid on the ground in fetile position for about 8 minutes of the 10 minute rest.
rest 10 min
"Helen"
*9:25
*First time running for time since surgery, calves were tight and knee wasn't great but no major issues other than being slow as shit. All KBS and Pullups were U/B.
*Gut is acting up again, going to see doc on Wednesday to see what is up. Let's keep program rolling and see how things go with Doc. Don't want to change up, hoping we just change meds and get it back under control.

Training (1130a)
Make-Up From Yesterday
30 Min Row For Max Distance
*7,890m
*This was right around 1:54, didn't feel great until about 20m in. Mentally it took a little bit before I got comfortable and stopped feeling sorry for my dumbass.
Need to start getting my mind ready for some of the shit we have coming up. Body is feeling good, knee is coming along fine. The pressure isn't like I felt last year for some reason, that's a good thing. Maybe I have just managed my expectations a little better. I know that if the right events come up at Regionals than I will have as good of a shot as anyone...except Ben but other than that, I will have my chance. If the events come out and don't favor a 245# guy, then so be it. I don't have anything to prove to myself or anyone else out there. Do I want to make it to the games just as bad as the previous 4 years...sure. But if I don't become the .04 percent that make it, I am alright with that. As always though, if anyone thinks they are going to beat me, I sure hope they are willing to suffer as much as I am. I have done alot of suffering over the past 4 years of training and I have gotten little reward for all that suffering....time to cash in.
